Hello, again, and welcome.

This comic was inked with a W-N Series 7 and I finally know for sure why people write that this is a great brush.

Grandad should not be surprised that he was sold out for a trip to the comic book store. Hey...it isn't personal, it's business.

My "Snipe" book on tha Amazon Kindle is still a work in progress. I am loading pages and viewing them, then reloading them. It is a trial and error process figuring out how to make the pages look good on the iphone size without problems.  I am currently solving the problem of a blank page appearing between pages of comics.  I'll figure it out soon.

I am having a great time creating these comics posts. I hope they reach a large compatible audience. Having no real skill in self promotion and zero desire to pander to an audience, that goal may get left on the table unless someone comes along and does it for me.

See ya soon.

The "Snipe" (42) Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Maybe the "Snipe" doesn't always have to commit some act of offstage violence every single comic he appears. Maybe.

I am about one-fifth of the way through creating an Amazon Kindle book of "Snipe" daily format comics. I think it has potential.

See ya soon!

Don't Tell Grandma Sunday April 24, 2011 (74)

Happy Easter to you.

If you have an Amazon Kindle, I very much recommend a couple of G. B. Trudeau's Doonesbury books. "Signature Wound"  and "The Long Road Back".  These are formatted so that comics look pretty darn good on the Kindle.  Also, they are supportive of wounded veterans. As is the case on Easter, many of us are most thankful for something we don't personnaly seserve.

If you don't have an Amazon Kindle, you can download the software for your PC, IPhone, or IPad for free.

I'll betcha the "Snipe" shows up on Kindle one of these days.

The "Snipe" (41) Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Even though these "Snipe" comics appear on Wednesday, the format for these comics is called a Sunday page.

I have been writing "Snipe" comics in the "Daily" format, which nowadays seems to be a two panel format.

I have a project in the works to use these.  When I am ready, I'll put a few of them on this website as a preview.

I use thin ink when I use a brush and THICK ink when I use a pen. This bottle sits on my table with the lid off.  It finally got so thick i had to add something to thin it down.  More ink.

Don't Tell Grandma Sunday April 17, 2011 (73)

I already did a Grandma comic for today and then I did this one for next week. Somehow this one didn't seem appropriate for Easter. So here it is a week earlier.

This one (and the next one) were inked in brush. I am using a Richeson 6228 Kolinsky Sable brush.  I have ordered the Winsor Newton Series 7 because everyone brags on those.  I'll let you know if I like 'em.

Hello to my cousin, the Earl of Sussex.

I continue to hear from old friends on Facebook and I am quite happy about that.  I am amazed that people I haven't seen in forty years even remember me at all.

Just for the heck of it.  Look up the first Don't Tell Grandma comic (It's on this website on the calender based earlier posts). Ain't it amazing how much different the characters have changed their looks.  I didn't change them to make them cuter. I changed them to make them less time consuming to color.

See ya soon.

The "Snipe" (40) Wednesday, April 13, 2011

An old saying, "If you don't like the weather, just wait and it will change."

Happy birthday to Karen Sales and to Allyson.

My Opinion...

The greatest living American artist is Jeffrey Catherine Jones.
The greatest living American cartoonist is Steve Ditko.
The greatest living American writer is George R. R. Martin.

Don't Tell Grandma Sunday April 10, 2011 (72)

Sometimes comics is just a matter of drawing funny pictures.  This is the third one in a row I've done using a brush.

Let's hope that good things happen to good people and that bad things happen to bad people.

May you have what you want and want what you have.

The "Snipe" (39) Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Several people who REALLY know me say that The "Snipe" is me.

This one reflects my own position on causes. Yes...even YOURS.

That doesn't mean that I don't love you just the same.

See ya soon.

Don't Tell Grandma Sunday April 3, 2011 (71)

Once again I drew this comic with a brush.  I switched from a #1 to a #2 brush on the fourth panel.

I like the way the lines look in terms of weight. Of course I will continue to practice on this and assume some improvement will follow.

Several of my favorite cartoonists worked in brush. Walt Kelly, Milton Caniff, Wally Wood, Jeff Smith, and the great Jack Davis got incredible results using the brush.

Remember the little song, "Make new friends, but keep the old"?  I may not have been too good about staying involved with the old friends in my life, but I still consider them to be gold.  It is always good to hear from each of you.
